This year I will be running with the Miles for Miracles Team in the 2025 Boston Marathon, and specifically, I will be running for my patient Owen!
As a nurse in the Med/surg ICU at Boston Children's I see what patients and families go through every day on their worst of days.
Running has been a way to clear my head but this year I am running with one kid in mind- Owen
Owen first arrived at an out of state hospital on Oct 21 with seizures starting a very long journey. Owen had bilateral AVMs causing a brain bleed. While Owen should have celebrated his Halloween with trick or treats, Owen was in the ICU figuring out next steps. Owen’s doctor ultimately recommended he come to Dr. See at BCH for his repair. So a month after the seizure, Owen came to Boston. Owen spent the next 56 days in the MSICU, missing Chanukah and Christmas, ringing in 2025 with nurses, and overall relying on BCH to help keep him safe and comfortable. I had the pleasure of caring for Owen 18 of those shifts. Owen has been a great example of what the hospital can offer, between child life, neurosurgery, housing, transportation, financial planning, toys, next steps, and Owen’s favorite, music therapy. Owen, Natalie and Kevin have experienced many things that BCH has to offer. We want to keep these support systems going.
Every dollar I raise funds the best medical care, breakthrough research and vital support services for sick kids and their families. Your gift will:
- help children from your town and across the world get second chances;
- give kids battling the most complex diseases care they can't find anywhere else;
- fuel 3,000+ researchers working to develop new treatments and cures;
- support patient programs, like music and art therapy, to let kids be kids, even during long hospital stays;
- help patient families in crisis with urgent needs, such as food, clothing and housing;
- deliver the most compassionate, leading-edge care to every child who needs it.
Please support my fundraising and help the incredible kids and families at Boston Children's Hospital.
