During the Summer of 2020, our family suffered devastation after losing our unborn granddaughter Bailey Grace Daly, who had been diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia. It seems so long ago now, but this period of time coincided with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The world had been turned upside down, and now our own worlds had been upended again after learning of this diagnosis.
After the initial diagnosis was communicated to my daughter and son-in-law, our family was faced with the uncertainty and stress surrounding my daughter’s pregnancy; all the while trying to simultaneously cope with a global healthcare crisis forcing isolation instead of togetherness. There are simply no words to convey how trying a time this was for our extended families.
We spent countless hours, both in-person at Boston Children’s Hospital, and in Zoom consultations with doctors and nurses, as we navigated these uncharted waters. After our granddaughter passed, countless more hours still were spent with medical staff and counselors, to help our daughter and son-in-law cope with this loss.
The pandemic alone was a daunting enough task, but medical needs beyond COVID didn’t cease, as was the case for our family. I will never forget how gracious, supportive and understanding everyone affiliated with Boston Children’s Hospital was during this time.
This is why I had decided if I ever ran the Boston Marathon again, I would only do so in support of Boston Children’s Hospital. And here I am … grateful for this opportunity to run in the name of Boston Children's Hospital through the Miles for Miracles program … but I need your help in order to achieve my fundraising goal of $12,000!
UPDATE: THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO HAS HELPED ME TO REACH MY ORIGINAL FUNDRAISING GOAL OF $12,000!!! I have set a new goal of $15,000, so if you haven't already, please consider donating to help me reach my new goal!!
