My name is Ray Phillips and I am proud to be running the 2021 Boston Marathon on behalf of Boston Children’s Hospital/Miles for Miracles and the Credit Unions Kids at Heart Team.
Credit Unions Kids at Heart is a collaborative charitable organization of the credit union community throughout New England. Together, we raise money for research aimed at the prevention, treatment, and, one day, cure of pediatric neurological disorders. Our fields of interest are pediatric epilepsy and seizure disorders, Moyamoya disease, Cerebral Palsy, and pediatric brain cancer.
Our Team’s fundraising goes directly to medical research and clinical trials, performed at Boston Children’s Hospital and in partnership with their research affiliates. Boston Children’s Hospital has led the way in superior innovations in treatment and care since their founding 150 years ago. Our medical investigator partners believe, as we do, in the remarkable resilience of children, and in a future where every child can enjoy good health. We are proud to partner with their world-class research enterprise to help make their important discoveries and innovations available to children worldwide.
I'm running this year because I believe so strongly in all the amazing things Boston Children’s Hospital does for kids. Without Boston Children's Hospital, many of these rare diseases would not get the appropriate attention they need. Today, Boston Children's Hospital is one of the only hospitals in the world with full clinical programs devoted to rare illnesses. The hospital's patient care programs are unusually sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families really need. Researchers regularly make amazing discoveries that change children's lives. Boston Children's welcomes kids whose families can't afford health care, more than any other hospital in Massachusetts. Community programs make a point of reaching out to help low-income and at-risk kids. And the hospital doesn't just stop there. Boston Children's really understands the importance of training the next generation of top pediatricians and nurses, so they can continue to provide the best, most innovative care possible to kids.
I'm proud to partner with my Patient Partners Andy, Kayla, and Matty. Andy and I will be celebrating our 22nd BAA Marathon together as teammates on Boston Children’s Hospital/Miles for Miracles and the Credit Unions Kids at Heart Team. Andy was originally my Patient Partner for 14 years until becoming a wheelchair entrant at age 18 in the BAA Marathon in 2014, and he has now completed 4 BAA marathons. Kayla and her mom (Kris) made history in 2014 as Kris pushed Kayla (wheelchair) the 26.2 miles to become the first Mother-Daughter team to complete the BAA Marathon. Kayla and Matty are siblings, and for the 2019 BAA Marathon, Andy (Wheelchair Entrant), Ray (Runner), Kayla, and Matty were joined together as entrants/patient partners as a team.
Please support my run, and support the hospital by making a gift today. Thank you for supporting my run, supporting my Team, and for joining our mission to help children lead happy and healthy lives.
