I joined the Miles for Miracles team because I am passionate about helping kids at Boston Children’s Hospital find lifesaving care and give families hope.
For the past 6 years I have been a part of the Miles for Miracles Team running the Boston marathon raising over $250,000. Now, I am excited to be joining the Miles for Miracles Team for the NYC Marathon. This journey has not only changed the lives of many chilren at BCH, but it has also dramatically changed my life. It is a honor to raise money to support this worthwhile cause which gives back to so many children in need. It has also been a humbling experience for me and has filled a void in my heart. Fundraising for BCH inspired me to start my own non-profit called Dancers at Heart in June 2017. Our mission statement is simple: "We can all shine bright on stage but shinning bright in life by helping and lifting others up is where we can all make an everlasting difference. Dancers at Heart is committed to raising funds that benefit the health and wellness of those in need while fostering kindness and support." For more information and to stay up to date on our events please visit our website at www.dancersatheart5678.org. Please "like" us on Facebook to follow our journey to raise as much money as we can for Boston Children's Hospital.
I am so honored to be running the NYC Marathon for my patient partner Kylie Patten, who is a student at Melissa Hoffman Dance Center where I teach dance. Kylie was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February/March 2021. In May 2021, after a grueling 7-hour surgery, the tumor was successfully removed by the amazing team at Boston Children's Hospital. Although some challenges may lie ahead for Kylie, she is ready to tackle them head on. Kylie is a strong girl with a passion for life.
Dancers at Heart and I thank you in advance for your support and donations. All money raised this year will be restricted to the Child Life Services at BCH. "The mission of Child Life Services is to assist and support patients and families in their adjustment to the hospital experience. Emotional and developmental interventions are provided to ensure that the appropriate care and services are provided. This mission is accomplished through collaborative, interdisciplinary practice and education."
Much love,
JR
