For my third year I will be running the Boston Marathon with Boston Children's Hospital Miles for Miracles Team. My lifetime goal it Is to raise $1 million for the Pain Clinic at Boston Children's Hospital. Only $900,000 to go!!!
Since June my daughter Sadie Rose has been to the hospital 34 times, including one ambulance ride and four emergency rooms. In June she had surgery to remove some nerves in her abdomen and some cartilage on her ribs. In December she had a surgery that had some complications that put her back in the hospital for a couple nights. This January she had her nerves cut in the back of her head, (the occipital nerve). This would relieve the continuous migraine headaches. A controversial surgery but that seems to be the norm for Sadie.
I told someone that Sadie had a tough summer this year and Sadie looked at me and shrugged her shoulders. What I would consider a tough summer Sadie considers it a normal summer. Since a very young age Sadie has gone to to Boston Children's Hospital.(BCH) All Sadie has ever known is that she always needs to go to the hospital. I counted how many times she has been hospital and it is over 400 times. That is over one year of her life spent at Boston Children's Hospital. She rarely if ever complained as she knows it was the best place to be for the care that she needs. Sadie is so well known that it’s very common that a doctor, nurse or anesthesiologist will come to visit and say “Hi’ while she is at BCH.
Now for some very exciting news, a fund has been set up at BCH called the Pediatric Interventional Pain Service Fund. This means every penny I raise now goes directly to Sadie’s Doctor, Pradeep Dinakar at BCH Pain Clinic. Doctor Dinakar is behind everything and has been hands down the most compassionate doctor we have ever met. He has set up a fund, which is no easy task to get done. We know that research is the only way to have clinical trials and eventually cures. Sadie’s last three surgeries were not done 6 years ago as there was not enough research to back them up and now there is. 100% of our funds raised will go towards research under his direction. This fund was set up due to the endless support we received from beautiful people like you and a patient, Sadie Rose, who is fearless!!! This is Sadie’s fund and will help children who suffer from the same disorder Sadie has.
Please find it in your heart to support my run in the 2019 Boston Marathon.
