Hello again! After just completing the Boston Marathon with Miles for Miracles, I decided i wanted to keep going! I am so exicted to be joining theri team again to raise money for all the kids who fight battles everyday. AS you may know, Childrens is very close to mine and my families hearts.
Two of my cousins have been long term patients at Children's. My cousin PJ was treated there while battling Cystic Fibrosis. He would routinely be admitted for various reason relating to his disease. While he was there, his team of Doctors and nurses were amazing. They always made him feel safe and welcome. As a child, a hospital can be a scary place and his team really made sure that he was not afraid to be there. The care they were able to provide was also amazing. Sadly, he lost his battle in 2007 at the age of 9.
My other cousin, Finn is still a patient at Children's. He is now 5 years old. Finn was born deaf and with many more undiagnosed problems. He had cochlear implants when he was 10 months old and was able to hear his parent's voices for the first time. His primary form of communication is through sign language, leading many family members to start learning. He has been in speech therapy since this time. Finn also has some developmental delays. He has been attending physical therapy and occupational therapy to learn how to walk. Children's has been treating him since birth and the obstacles they have helped him over come in his 5 years is amazing. My whole family is genuinely grateful for all they have done for my two cousins.
.I've joined the Miles for Miracles team because I believe so strongly in all the amazing things Boston Children's Hospital does for kids:
- The hospital's patient care programs are unusually sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families really need.
- Researchers regularly make amazing discoveries that change children's lives.
- Boston Children's welcomes kids whose families can't afford health care--more than any other hospital in Massachusetts.
- Community programs makes a point of reaching out to help low-income and at-risk kids.
And the hospital doesn't just stop there. Boston Children's really understands the importance of training the next generation of top pediatricians and nurses, so they can continue to provide the best, most innovative care possible to kids.
