This fall I am excited to be joining the 2020 NYC Miles for Miracles Maraton team for the first time! This will be my first NYC marathon and my 6th overall maration.
The past 5 years of running for the Miles for Miracles Boston marathon team, we have been able to raise over $200,000 for Boston Children's Hospital. This journey has not only changed the lives of the children we try to help, but, it has also changed mine. Being able to serve and give back to others in need has filled a void in my heart, I'm honored that I have the support of so many, this has proven to be a very humbling experience. Because of this I started a non - profit called Dancers At Heart in June of 2017. Our mission statement is simple: "We can all shine bright on stage but shining bright in life by helping and lifting others up is where we can all make an everlasting difference. Dancers at Heart is committed to raising funds that benefit the health and wellness of those in need while fostering kindness and support." This year the journey has even more meaning - I will be running to honor my mother Mary Linden who passed on 11/18/19 after a hard fought battle with breast cancer. I will also will be running for my patient partner Max. At age 5 Max was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called Classic Ehlers Danlos Syndrome and soon after his care was transferred from Vermont to BCH. EDS is a group of connective tissues disorders with 13 subtypes. EDS impacts the production of collagen which is like the glue that holds our cells together, which means EDS impacts the entire body. Because of this Max has a large team of doctors (14!!) who treat the many sub-diagnoses related to EDS. What BCH has done for Max and how they have supported him and our family through the crisis of chronic and complex health issues astounds us. His doctors have built caring relationships with Max and our family that have allowed him to feel safe and supported during difficult experiences. Through all of Max's struggles, he is a serious warrior! He has found so many ways to bot be defined by his health issues and lives his life very fully and very joyfully.
