Hello and thank you for visiting my fundraising page! I have joined the Miles for Miracles team because it has been a dream of mine to run the Boston Marathon in memory and in honor of my daughter, Lia Jane Stadelmann.
In 2007, I gave birth to twins, Lia and Evan, at 26 weeks and 2 days gestation (26.2...Coincidence? I think not!) Lia was born at 1 lb 15 oz and her twin brother, Evan, weighed in at 1 lb 10 oz. Things did not look good for our precious babies and my husband and I were devastated, overwhelmed and completely panicked, to say the very least. After two weeks, Lia was transferred to Boston Children's Hospital for a heart surgery that would hopefully improve her chances of survival. Although the amazing doctors and nurses took unbelievable care of Lia (and of my husband, Ryan, and me) our beautiful daughter died in our arms just a few days later. We were so heartbroken.
Back at at South Shore Hospital, our son, Evan, was still fighting the good fight. After 100 long days in the NICU, we were thrilled and SO lucky to be able to finally bring him home. Evan is now 11 years old and doing great! We were also blessed with another daughter, Ayla, AND another set of twins, Olivia and Emily.
In 2017, ten years after Lia's heart surgery at Children's, we brought Evan back to the very same place for a heart procedure to treat and cure a heart condition called SVT. What a full circle moment for us to bring Lia's twin brother in for a heart procedure and leave with him healthy and cured!
It has been eleven years since Lia's death and I finally feel ready to run and raise money in her memory without slipping back into a dark place. A mother's grief truly has no timeline. I feel so honored and grateful to be able to have this opportunity to focus on Lia and to do something that allows me to feel like her mother again. I also feel very lucky to live near a hospital as amazing as Boston Children's. Every time I have been sitting in the waiting room, I have been struck by how many people have traveled from all over the world to receive care for their children at a hospital that is just miles from us. It is my privilege to fundraise for Boston Children's Hospital and I hope you will consider making a donation in memory of my daughter for all the children who deserve nothing but the very best. Thank you for reading!
