I'm so excited to share that I'm running the 2025 Boston Marathon for BCH! Mae was born on Marathon Monday. This year, she celebrates her 10th birthday the day before the marathon! We will also embark on our third heart surgery at the beginning of the year.
Nine years ago, I never could have imagined the magic and challenge and growth of this journey. I remember the first time I walked into BCH with Mae. She was four weeks old. We learned about her life threatening heart condition at that time. And so began our deep relationship with BCH. I remember how vulnerable I felt holding my infant in the lobby, looking around at the families coming and going and thinking "I don't want to be one of those people who needs this place". Now, almost ten years later, being "one of those people" is one of things I'm most proud of, it is a priviledge and an honor to be a BCH family.
All those years ago, Boston Children's Hospital saved Mae's life. In saving her, they saved all of us. They have cared for all of us over the past decade with so much love, kindness and incredible medical attention.
I am not in running shape. My calendar does not support marathon training. I start to think about winter and wind and rain and snow and it is not motivating! I can't not do it. Waking up early, putting one foot in front of the other, taking each training run one at time and raising funds for a place that means so much to our family is a small way for me to say Thank You. Thank you Boston Children's Hospital. Thank you BCH Cardiology. Thank you BCH Down Syndrome Program. Without you, we would not be us.
