When I was one month old I was rushed to Boston Children's Hospital due to fluid build-up in my lungs. They soon realized I was born with two holes in my heart and Situs Inversus, a rare condition where your organs are reversed or mirrored from their normal positions. I was in the hospital for a week, as the doctors debated open heart surgery to repair the defects. Luckily with medicine medicine to slow my heart rate down, I was able to avoid surgery. Unfortunately I would spend the next seven years of my life in and out of the hospital due to complications of my heart and breathing issues.
As I got older and healthier I was able to play baseball, basketball, and football throughout childhood and into high school, thanks to the amazing care from the staff at Boston Children's Hospital.
In February 2016 I suffered a rare kidney infarction and femoral artery dissection due to complications from the holes in my heart. Due to the femoral artery dissection I was unable to walk for long periods of time due to cramping in my right leg muscles due to a lack of blood flow. I refused to allow this set back to stop me from achieving a life long goal of running the Boston Marathon, so I told every doctor that would listen that I would still run and finish the Boston Marathon. I just needed them to find a way to give me a chance. At Mass General Hospital they implanted a stent in my right leg artery, and after almost 7 years I was able to finally run the 2023 Boston Marathon with the Miles for Miracles team.
I've joined the Miles for Miracles team again to run the 2024 TCS New York City Marathon. I want to use my personal experiences to help the children that are dealing with so much worse than what I have had to endure. I also want to encourage and inspire others to never give up on their dreams no matter what they are going through.
