I’m beyond excited to be running the 2020 New York City Marathon for Boston Children’s Hospital. I've joined the Miles for Miracles team because I believe so strongly in all the amazing things Boston Children's Hospital does for kids:
• The hospital's patient care programs are unusually sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families really need.
• Researchers regularly make amazing discoveries that change children's lives.
• Boston Children's welcomes kids whose families can't afford health care--more than any other hospital in Massachusetts.
• Community programs makes a point of reaching out to help low-income and at-risk kids.
And the hospital doesn't just stop there. Boston Children's really understands the importance of training the next generation of top pediatricians and nurses, so they can continue to provide the best, most innovative care possible to kids.
While I’ve personally never been a patient at Boston Children’s, I’ve experienced the comfort and care a great children’s hospital should provide from being a frequent patient at a Children’s hospital in Morristown New Jersey. Growing up, I had gone misdiagnosed with Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis for 12 years. Throughout the majority of my childhood, my parents and I would travel to the Children’ hospital weekly to meet with specialist after specialist in hopes to discover the cause to my chronic pain and fatigue. The hospital staff would without fail greet me and my family with warm welcoming faces and positive attitudes. While most of my visits revolved around a plethora of tests, prodding, and procedures, which are always frightening to any young child, the staff at the hospital always found a way to ease the fear and worry. Having to seek medical attention on behalf of your child is already a hard-enough scenario to grasp, but knowing your child is in the care of the best physicians alleviates that hardship immensely. With Boston Children’s hospital being one of the largest pediatric medical centers in America, I am certain that the children and families that are seeking medical help are getting the same, if not more, attention, comfort, and top-notch professional expertise that I received at the Children’s hospital in Morristown.
Running a marathon has been a dream of mine for quite some time; and now realizing this dream is going to soon become a reality is utterly indescribable. Growing up, there was a point in time where I could barely walk. Now, after receiving the proper treatment, I am able to achieve exceptionally more than I ever thought possible. I run because I know what it feels like physically not being able to and I want to run this year’s marathon for the kids that are unable to do so. Running the New York City Marathon through Boston Children’s Hospital is such an immense honor because I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am today without the treatment and care of a children’s hospital like Boston Children’s.
I greatly appreciate all of your continued support!
