I'm beyond excited to be running my first marathon this year with the Miles for Miracles team. I've joined the Miles for Miracles team because I believe so strongly in all the amazing things Boston Children's Hospital does for kids:
- The hospital's patient care programs are unusually sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families really need.
- Researchers regularly make amazing discoveries that change children's lives.
- Boston Children's welcomes kids whose families can't afford health care--more than any other hospital in Massachusetts.
- Community programs makes a point of reaching out to help low-income and at-risk kids.
And the hospital doesn't just stop there. Boston Children's really understands the importance of training the next generation of top pediatricians and nurses, so they can continue to provide the best, most innovative care possible to kids.
Running New York marathon is a dream of mine and doing it for a good cause means the world to me. Growing up I was never the athletic type of person and I never practiced or excelled at any sport. I never run or thought I could do it. I had asthma and I could not run longer than 2 minutes before I would start coughing and hyperventilating. However, things changed when I finished grad school and moved to Massachusetts for work over 3 years ago. I decided I wanted to become more active and I wanted to dedicate time and effort to exercising. For over a year I kept my runs short and would only run 1 or 2 miles for week, but then I slowly became comfortable with longer distances. I remember I started to realize my asthma was starting to disappear and decided to push harder. With the support of my friends and some amazing coaches at Crossfit Cytiline I started to train for a 5k and then for a 10k. At some point those distances became my daily runs and I realized I could run even more than I ever thought I could do. Running suddenly became one of my favorite things to do in the world. Last year I challenged myself to run my first half marathon and with consistent training I was able to complete it.
What seemed impossible a couple of years ago, now seems a reality, and I'm beyond excited to be training to complete my first marathon this November with the amazing team of Miles per Miracles. I want to run to support the work of Boston Children's Hospital and I want to run this year's marathon for all the kids that are unable to do so.
I appreciate your support and look forward to seeing you at the finish line in November. Support me, and support the hospital! Please make a gift today. Any amount is helpfup :).
