I am thrilled to announce that I am running the 2021 Boston Marathon with the Boston Children’s Hospital (BCH) Miles for Miracles Team! As you may already be aware, BCH is an exceptional organization for many reasons.
Some reasons why I chose to fundraise for Boston Children’s Hospital include:
• BCH welcomes kids whose families can't afford health care--more than any other hospital in Massachusetts.
• The hospital's patient care programs are extraordinarily sensitive to what sick and injured children and their families need.
• Community programs make a point of reaching out to help low-income and at-risk kids.
• Researchers regularly make amazing discoveries that change children's lives.
I have come to learn how BCH understands the importance of training the next generation of top pediatricians and nurses, so they can continue to provide the best, most innovative care possible to kids. A portion of the money raised from Miles for Miracles contributions will help the hospital provide continued training to their amazing staff.
On a personal level, I have always wanted to run the Boston Marathon in honor of my sister, Lena. BCH was a big part of my sister’s life when she was a child. Lena turns 40 this year and is just four years older than me. Lena was born with severe mental retardation, autism and overtime developed a drop seizure disorder. Her life has not been easy, to say the least. Yet she has jumped hurdles and proven that her strong willpower can surpass the many battles that have come her way.
She is my motivation in so much that I do, how I view life, and all its challenges that persist. I will put in much dedication and persistence to train for this marathon, but I do not doubt that it is my sister’s inspiration that will get me past the finish line.
I’ve taken my kids to wellness appointments at BCH over the past few years and every time I step foot in the hospital, I can’t help to look around at all the children their parents/guardians, and especially their siblings who are only at the start of facing similar challenges as they seek for answers. I feel for them, my heart breaks but I know they find that same comfort in knowing they are in the best of care at BCH.
The picture on this page is of my sister and 3 sons. I take them to visit their Auntie Lena often. It is incredibly important to me that they grow to learn and interact with people who have special needs, that they treat everyone with kindness, and most importantly that Lena shows them what it means to be strong.
Please consider supporting me and Boston Children’s Hospital. I truly appreciate your support in helping me reach my goal!
Thank you! Francesca
