every miles matters
People have compared this pandemic to a marathon. I don't have a crystal ball to see how we'll emerge from this crisis, but I do know that running a marathon takes resilience, strength and community.
After horrid weather prevented many runners from finishing the 2018 Boston Marathon, a few of them organized Boston Marathon 2.0. My friend Gwen and I decided to support the athletes by running the last 16 miles with them. I wound up running every mile with Julie, a Boston Children's Hospital charity runner. I wanted to do everything I could to make sure she crossed the finish line. She did. And we will!
For the last four months I've been focused on another marathon essential--preparation. I've been running 6 days a week, anticipating a May 17 marathon. But things don't always go according to plan. The marathon--like so many things in this wacky COVID-19 world--has been cancelled. I'm lucky! I'm healthy enough to run a crazy number of miles. My loved ones are safe and mostly out of harm's way. I have an incredible job, working with the most awesome caregivers and scientists in the world.
What better way to show that every mile matters than by supporting this incredible team who are
- On the front lines of COVID-19 vaccine development.
- Delivering cutting-edge care to our most vulnerable children.
- Partnering with adult hospitals to share resources, best practices and innovations.
I'm still training and plan to get out for a safe and solo 26.2 mile run on May 17. If your situation is comfortable, please consider a donation. Otherwise, your good thoughts go a long way. Stay well!
