Thank you for visiting my page!
I've decided to participate in the NYC Marathon this year to support a cause very close to home - Boston Children's Hospital.
Every dollar I raise will fund breakthrough research, family supports, and vital services not covered by insurance through the hospital’s Every Child Fund. Your gift will:
Save kids’ lives
- Give children battling the most complex diseases treatments they can’t find anywhere else.
- Help children in your town and across the world get a second chance.
- Fuel 3,000+ researchers working to find cures.
- Help patient-families in crisis with urgent needs, like housing, food and clothing.
- Bring crucial care to families through not one, but four outpatient psychiatry clinics.
- Provide Reiki, yoga and a safe place to simply exhale for families facing the stress of caring for a critically-ill child.
More specifically, the Every Child Fund often provides seed money for new, innovative research projects. These beginning endeavors often are too experimental and small in scope to garner grants from the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the nation's medical research agency. Once one of these small projects succeeds, the researcher is much more likely to receive an NIH grant to expand the work's scope.
That research then leads to cutting-edge care. One example of research leading to revolutionary new treatments occurred in late 2021, when an 11-year-old Kentucky boy was implanted with a synthetic heart valve designed to expand as he grows. Developed by Boston Children's clinicians and researchers, the unique valve design can be balloon-expanded in the catheterization lab—avoiding repeat surgeries to replace a valve the child has outgrown. Thanks to the Every Child Fund, innovations like the expandable valve can vastly improve children's medical outcomes—and their lives.
The Every Child Fund also supports patient services including our Patient Family Housing Program, which provides temporary housing near our hospital for families coming from more than 50 miles away. The program was born because affordable temporary housing in Boston is scarce, and a child’s serious illness often already has strained the family’s financial resources to the limit. Non-reimbursable through patients’ health insurance, this vital program is funded almost exclusively through philanthropy. In FY22, the program provided 7,332 nights of sleep to 1,515 families across four properties, enabling those who couldn't afford months' worth of hotel prices to stay close to their children receiving treatment.
The Every Child Fund also supports our hospital's community health efforts, which include Family Food Connections, a community food pantry located within the Boston Housing Authority's Mildred C. Hailey Apartments. The site, which opened in January 2022, provides visitors with food, nutrition education and recipes, and helps them connect to other community resources. In its first year, Family Food Connections served more than 3,000 families, with more than 14,200 visits. Now, the site receives about 600 visits per week. Between 150-250 families visit the site on each day that it is open. Nearly 60% of the 110,000 pounds of food distributed monthly consists of fresh produce.

My goal is to raise $4000 to contribute to the hospital's crucial work. Your support, no matter the amount, will have a lasting impact on the lives of young patients and their families. Thank you so much for considering a donation!
