Hi (again!)! My name is Carly and I am so excited to be a part of another Boston Children's Hospital team. I am running on the Miles for Miracles NYC marathon team to help support the brave kids at Boston Children's Hospital. Being a kindergarten teacher, I am passionate about helping children. To make this experience even more special, I am raising money for young patients and their families. With your support we can help the children at Boston Children's.
I have the privilege to run on behalf of a very special patient partner- AGAIN!! I will be running in honor of Hailey Wetmore (daughter of Kyra and Justin Wetmore). Kyra and Justin are a family-friend and I am beyond excited to partner with them. It is inspiring to hear the lasting impact BCH has had on this family. A note from Hailey's Mama: At 20 weeks pregnant with your first child the last thing you expect to hear at your anatomy scan is that there is something wrong with your baby. But unfortunately, that was our reality. What was supposed to be the happiest time of our life ended up being the scariest. Doctors at our local hospital were not able be able to give a diagnosis as they had not seen something like this. We were told to prepare ourselves for the worst. We were encouraged to terminate the pregnancy. We were told that if Hailey survived she may never walk and would never have a normal life. We quickly sent imaging around the country praying that a team would be able to help our baby. We consulted with several teams, but as soon as we met with the team at Boston Children’s Hospital, we knew instantly we didn't want anybody else taken care of our baby. We delivered Hailey in Boston so that we could be close to the Children's Hospital. Her entire team was present for her delivery and jumped into action as soon as she was here. Hailey was diagnosed with something called Cloacal Exstrophy, but she does have differences from a typical case of this that make her situation even more complicated. With this condition Hailey also has chronic kidney disease, spinal defects, pubic diastasis, and was born with bilateral clubbed feet. From the very beginning Boston Children's Hospital gave us hope. Hailey is now two years old. She does every single thing that a typical 2 year old does. We travel to Boston every 3/4 months for imaging, follow ups, and blood work. She has 3 surgeries and countless procedures and while our journey ahead is still very long, we know Hailey is in the best hands possible. I'm not sure where we would be or what the outcome would have been for our daughter had we not found BCH. What I am sure of is that this hospital and its incredible staff are truly our heroes. They saved our little girl and we will forever be indebted to them. When you walk into BCH, it's the most humbling experience. You see so many people from all over the world trying to get answers for their kids. You see kids who are so much sicker than your child and you realize how fortunate you are that while you have been through so much, it's nothing compared to other families at BCH.
I am honored to represent the BRAVE, DETERMINED, and FEARLESS child that Hailey is!
