Will you help me reach my fundraising goal with a donation today?
When I was a graduate student, I volunteered weekly at Boston Children's Hospital. I read books, played games, and hung out with kids who were stuck in the hospital. Their courage and high spirits in the face of daunting health challenges was inspiring.
Several years later, one of my best friends and his wife had a baby girl - Bernadette - born with a complicated heart disease. She received the best care imaginable at Boston Children's Hospital, including many risky and complex surgeries. The doctors, nurses, and staff were loving and supportive of her and her parents.
Sadly, Bernadette passed away at the age of 15. Thanks to Boston Children's, she got the care that enabled her to attend school and participate in her marching band, wind ensemble, and drama club. She lived life to the fullest and was a happy, smiling kid with an amazing attitude despite being chronically ill. She was so joyful that her classmates unanimously and posthumously voted her best laugh in their senior year! She was an inspiration to my family and others.
I am proudly dedicating my 2024 NYC marathon to Bernadette's memory.
