I've joined the Miles for Miracles for the TCS New York City Marathon because I am passionate about helping kids at Boston Children’s Hospital find lifesaving care. Our family has personally seen the impact access to the best medical care can have on patient care and outcomes.
Earlier this year Brij Spangler seemed like any typical eight-year-old boy, thinking about Minecraft and baseball. Seemingly innocent abdominal pain became every parent's worst nightmare just after New Year's. A colonoscopy discovered a colon mass and after extensive testing, Brij was diagnosed with Stage IV signet cell carcinoma of the colon. This is a rare and aggressive cancer, VERY rarely seen in kids. He was airlifted to Boston Children's Hospital where he received life sustaining treatment. Thanks to his amazing medical team he has been given more time with family and friends as well as hope for a cure. Brij emanates joy to everyone who meets him, and his incredible smile lifts the spirits of anyone lucky enough to be with him. Brij serves as an inspiration to those around him as he continues his valiant fight against cancer.
