I am thrilled to join Miles for Miracles for the TCS New York City Marathon to raise funds and awareness for the Boston Children's Hospital!
I learned from my late Uncle Jack, about the challenges that can come with getting appropriate and affordable healthcare for individuals with disabilities. I also learned about the magic and strength of good hearted people who give their lives to helping others, in whatever direction that may be. As an OT working at a school that supports students with complex medical disabilities and needs, I was able to learn about Boston Children’s Hospital and the positive influence it has had on so many of the families I work with.
This marathon I am running for “Team Liam!”, my Patient Partner, who is also one of my strong, smiley, and sweet students I work with. Liams mother shared with me how the road to a diagnosis for him was a tough one including getting told by a local hospital that Liam had a very rare genetic diagnosis, followed by being warned of heartbreaking outcomes associated with it. This led the family to seek out Boston Children’s Hospital for more answers and to get the opportunity to work with a neurologist who specializes in the presumed gene disorder they were told he had. Once at Boston, he was able to get more thorough tests done to lead to an updated diagnosis’ of cerebral palsy. From there, his team at Boston Children’s helped his family develop a game plan for treatment, provided them information for carrying over treatment for school and home, and gave them a medical team that consistently advocates for their son. His mom shared “Even with the long drive, to us it’s totally worth it to help our baby succeed. Since our first visit three years ago, Liam has AFOS, has been walking better with his gait trainer, has had success with his augmentative therapy, has had success with sleeping at night, when he’s never sleep for the first three years of his life, and so much more. We can’t wait to see him grow and develop further thanks to all the help and constant research of BCH.”
I am passionate about fundraising for Boston Children’s Hospital alongside the Mile’s for Miracles team to help more children get the quality care they deserve, no matter what they are battling. every family deserves the access to hope, answers, and support, and I am honored to run/fundraise for this cause.
Every dollar I raise funds breakthrough research, family support services, and vital care not covered by insurance through the hospital’s Every Child Fund. Your gift will:
- give children battling the most complex diseases treatments they can’t find anywhere else;
- help children in your town and across the world get a second chance;
- fuel 3,000+ researchers working to find cures;
- help patient-families in crisis with urgent needs, including housing, food and clothing;
- bring crucial care to families through outpatient psychiatry clinics;
- and so much more.
