In 2007, my best friend and twin brother Chris was diagnosed with Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia (ALL). Instead of joining me on what was supposed to be his first day of second grade, Chris was stuck at Boston Children’s Hospital, where he was set to begin chemotherapy treatment. At the young age of seven, I wasn’t sure what cancer truly entailed. I soon realized that our family wouldn’t be together at home for weeks, after school consisted of hospital visits instead of playing in the backyard, and my other half wasn’t the ball of energy he usually was. At first, I absolutely dreaded the post-school hospital trips; I was scared of the hospital and viewed Boston Children’s through a negative lens. But as time went on, I began to look forward to visiting Chris and interacting with the kids, their siblings, and staff on the floor. The nurses, doctors, and other healthcare providers turned an awful situation into one filled with hope, never failing to treat Chris, myself, and my parents like family. Without Boston Children's Hospital and the Jimmy Fund Clinic, Chris wouldn’t be the courageous, strong, smart, and funny person he is today.
After growing up watching the Boston Marathon, finding my passion for running in high school, and pursuing it at the College of the Holy Cross, for years I’ve been determined to participate in the 26.2 mile run from Hopkinton to Boylston St. I am so happy to announce that I will be running the 2025 Boston Marathon on the Miles for Miracles team. I can’t think of a better way to say thank you to the place that provided my brother with exceptional care.
