We are fundraising to support pediatric brain tumor research at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Maddie, our 7 year old daughter, has been battling a brain tumor for 3.5 years. Since her initial diagnosis in January 2021, she has endured eight surgeries, 52 rounds of chemotherapy, dozens of nights in various hospitals and (likely) hundreds of doctor’s appointments (at this point we’ve lost count). On a somewhat related note, we'll soon be launching a review site on the food at all of these various hospitals - first up, whichever place took overcooked pasta, covered it in shredded cheese, microwaved it and then had the audacity to call it mac & cheese. But I digress.
The research we're backing at Boston Children's will be directly impactful to Maddie. It's a two year research program that will study ten different targeted therapies to see which of these most effectively hits the genetic profile of Maddie's tumor. But it's not just for Maddie, approximately 10-20% of all pediatric brain tumors share this genetic profile (FGFR mutation) so this impacts hundreds of kids a year. Fortunately for 50-60% of kids with this disease with the BRAF mutation, these targeted therapies already exist (one of which Maddie is currently on). This is what we're working to bring to bear for Maddie.
We recently just cleared $100,000 in July 2024 to get the work started; however, the ultimate need is $300,000 over two years in case you see me spinning a Boston Children's Hospital sign at your nearest traffic light.
Thank you for your consideration and thank you for your support. We truly could not do this without you.
Thank you,
The Potter Family
