I belong to the group of parents whose babies have lived at Children's Hospital Boston NICU. A group of people who find themselves in the throws of mass confusion, looking for an ounce of hope. 12 hrs. after Riley was born, we found ourselves listening to the Critical Care Transport Team (36% of their patients are under 2 weeks old) tell us how they would move, accompany, & drive Riley 17.9 miles without sirens. This, after hearing 5min. after Riley was born that she had visual signs of Down syndrome. Our family become a part of a bigger one that week. One that tempered my worry with calmness, patience with my infinite questions, especially the calls in the middle of the night when I should have been feeding her and a snuggler stepped in so we could rest. After a week Riley received a platelet transfusion & we could finally bring her home. I asked our nurse 'What am I supposed to do now?' & received the best medical advice to date. 'Take her home & love her.' Oh, how we have. I promised then that I would always give back to this first stop. On April 28th I will participate in my 4th Yoga Reaches Out @ Gillette's field house w/ 1,000+ yogis. When YRO partnered with the CHB Wellness Center last year, I can't explain how significant this is for me, seeing my worlds collide. Being able to do yoga to fundraise for the Wellness Center that offers a place for mediation, yoga, Reiki, & more to parents of patients who desperately need few moments of relief from the concerns they are facing…I'm on it. When you realize you belong to a group you never wanted to join, can't live without, & need to give back--my favorite version: ‘Of him to whom much is given, much will be required.' If you are able to help me help the Wellness Center, staff, & families facing some of their toughest hours, your donation will leave a huge impact & weigh much more than an ounce of hope.
