I'm participating in Yoga Reaches Out because I want to help Boston Children's Hospital continue its amazing work for kids and families. Last year's event was inspiring and pulled at the heartstrings.
Our family has had lots of visit to Boston Children's over the years. From quick ER visits to week-long stays, it is never easy to see your child in a hosptial bed. Each visit humbles me. In 1982, my young brother, Mark Alexander, spent his 28 days of life at Boston Children's when he was born with a congenital heart disease, Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS). At that time, there was no 'cure'. I can't imagine the long days my parents spent at the hospital. It is on my mind every.single.time I enter those hopsital doors that we are so lucky that our visits are for weeks or months. I truly believe in the power of yoga, Reiki, and other wellness programs for parents and caregivers who are spending hours by their children's bedsides. I wish it had been an option for my parents in 1982. Luckily, it is now! And babies are now diagnosed in-utero with HLHS, and many of them can be treated and go on to live long lives.
This year donations will benefit Boston Children's Wellness Program and Every Child Fund.
Support me in helping give strength to familes coping with a sick child.
