I'm participating in Yoga Reaches Out because I want to help Boston Children's Hospital continue its amazing work for kids and families.
This fundraiser holds a very special place in my heart. I was born with a rare genetic bone condition called multiple osteochondromatosis, or hereditary multiple exostoses. Basically; I have benign bone tumors that grow all over my body; but mainly in my joints. 1 in 50,000 people are born with my condition and for the first few months of my life my parents took me to several doctors, and no one knew what was wrong with me. Until they brought me to Boston's Children's Hospital, where they finally were able to diagnose and help me.
I was a patient at Boston Children's Hospital until I was 20 years old. Today, I have a relatively normal life in comparison because of my doctors and all they did for my family and I. Which is a debt I will never be able to repay; but I can try.
I have also been in chronic pain due this condition my entire life. It wasn't until 2015, when I took my very first yoga class; that I felt any sensation of relief. I was 22 and I literally cried. Yoga since then, has worked its magic in healing me not just physically, but spiritually and mentally as well. I could not imagine a more rewarding cause than to combine my love for yoga and what it has done in my life with my gratitude for what the Boston Children's hospital has done for me as well.
During this day-long yogathon, more than 1,000 yogis will come together for an inspirational day of yoga, music, and fundraising - all to help bring peace and healing to others.
This year donations will benefit Boston Children's Wellness Program and Every Child Fund.
Support me in helping give strength to children like me and families like mine. Namaste.
