Addy’s Army walks for their 3rd year for Addison, our 5-year-old daughter diagnosed with a Primary Immune Deficiency and most recently HLH. Addy receives monthly IVIG blood plasma infusions and in March will be receiving a stem cell transplant with her infant sister being the donor. We walk to say THANK YOU to the doctors, nurses, child life specialists, clowns, blood plasma donors, research teams and EVERY other person that has helped our family and continues to help in immense ways. This year funds donated to Addy’s Army will go directly to Immunology Research. Immunology research is the REASON we caught her HLH diagnosis and have a strong and healthy Addy girl.
Our families journey began with Boston Children’s Hospital when Addison was rushed to the Emergency Department from our local hospital in November, 2017 at the age of 2. The incredible team including Dr. Horowitz in the ER quickly assessed Addy diagnosing her as Septic and began a treatment plan, which included being admitted into the Intensive Care Unit. Obviously, this was the scariest moment we had experienced as parents yet Children’s hospital gave us this sense of calm and comfort. We knew because of where we were, everything was going to be alright. Fast forward to September, 2019 when her baby sister was born we learned Addy has an additional diagnosis of HLH. Throughout learning and being educated about this new diagnosis her immunologist, Dr. Ari Fried became not only her doctor but part of our family. He called and emailed on weekends and late at night and always made himself available for our family.
In March, 2020 Addy will be admitted to Children’s/Dana Farber to receive a stem cell transplant from her younger sister Brooke to cure her HLH (Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis. It will not be an easy process but we have full confidence in the care she will receive at Children’s!
PLEASE consider donating or joining our walk to support Boston Children’s Hospital!!
*This year Addy’s Army may only be able to walk virtually due to Addison recovering from transplant.
