Do You Believe in Magic?
Parker was born with a complete atrioventricular canal defect, potentially with a coarctation of her aorta. When she was born, she spent her first week in the cardiac unit at Boston Children’s for monitoring.
Less than 4 weeks later, Parker was in heart failure. She was back at Children’s, where they monitored her on machines and tried to bulk her up with a feeding tube for a week before things escalated to a point where she needed immediate intervention. This heart warrior had her open heart repair on June 2, 2022, when she was just 6 weeks old. She spent another week in the cardiac ICU and a few days in the cardiac unit before finally going home.
Parker was more fortunate than many, being born in Boston. Only 2 in 10,000 newborns are born with the defect that Parker was born with - and most of them come to Children’s for their repair. To have this resource so nearby - packed with the most talented, knowledgeable doctors and most empathetic, nurturing nurses - was the greatest blessing.
Parker’s middle name is Magic, and it defines her so perfectly. This year, she will lead our team in raising money for Children’s Heart Center Urgent Needs. This fund within BCH is dedicated to financially supporting the families who aren’t as fortunate in their location as Parker was. It supports their travel to and stay in Boston so their children can get the same world-class, innovative care that Parker received.
Will you help us give families worldwide the same opportunities we were so lucky to have access to for Parker? Do you believe in magic?
