2019 Walk

TEAM DOWN SYNDROME walked for the 1st time in 2009 raising money for our Down Syndrome Program Fund! We want this year to be the biggest and best year ever in celebration of our 10 year anniversary! Boston Children's Down Syndrome Program is one of the oldest and largest clinics in the country. We use funds raised for many things that directly benefit our patients and families. We hope you will sign up to support us this year!

Some words from our Walk Ambassador, Melanie Beaulier:

Over the years my family and I have traveled the world on countless adventures; experiencing the wonders of both nature and mankind. But never have we come as close to miracles as when we pass through the doors of Boston Children’s Hospital. We are walking to support Children’s Hospital not only because of these miracles but because Children’s is where our little man Tate’s adventure began and where we continue to feel the warmth of a community knit together with a shared purpose, compassion, and mutual support. Having been born with Down syndrome and the accompanying concerns about complications, Tate and our family experienced first-hand during his early infancy the generosity and nurturing of Children’s Hospital. A more recent diagnosis of autism brought further questions, but again the staff of Children’s were there with smiles, answers and plenty of support.

We’re walking because Tate’s adventure continues with visits twice each year as a participant in their Down Syndrome Clinic. There he is exhausted during a day full of wonderful interactions with physicians, therapists, nutritionists, and myriad other specialists. There we get to see the benefits of their research on children with Down syndrome and other complex medical needs. More than anything… We’re walking for our Tator Tot; our handsome and happy 7-year-old boy. A blessing every day, his easy smile and laughter shapes our days; appearing at the sight of his brothers- Bennett or Gus- his dog Barnaby or goldfish (the crackers… not the animal)… Lots and lots of goldfish. His happiness is everywhere, swimming laps around us in the pool, greeting people with his talker, charming everyone and laughing the day away.

Thank you so much to Children’s Hospital and the Down Syndrome Clinic for supporting our family and helping to smooth the path for Tate's journey! We are walking with Team Down syndrome on their 10th anniversary as a team. We joined them when Tate was only one year old and hope to make this the best year yet. We have been and continue to be so grateful for our friends, family, and community for their support.

There are three ways to join us:

1. Join our team! Come to the Hatch Shell along with our team members, patients, families, and friends of the Down Syndrome Program. It's a fun day of walking, music, food, and fun!

2. Be a virtual walker! You may not be able to walk in person that day BUT you can "walk" and help raise money for our team.

3. Find a walker and make a donation! Every little bit helps!
