I'm participating in Yoga Reaches Out Yogathon, because I am passionate about helping kids and families at Boston Children's Hospital.
From 1986 - 2003, Children’s was practically a second home for me. In third grade, I was diagnosed with hydrocephalus and had a shunt placed. Over the next two decades, I had multiple shunt revisions and stays at Children’s - 9 North was my wing. Although there were scary moments for me as a young patient, I have many positive memories of my times in the hospital. The treatment I received as a patient was top notch. So much of what I remember about being in the hospital was fun - doing arts and crafts with the child life specialist, watching Girls Just Want To Have Fun on VHS (there was a VCR/TV cart that traveled to patient rooms.) In 1997, I remember the Clown Doctors who would visit with patients. They were hilarious and brought me lots of laughs that summer. I was 18.
Children’s will forever have a special place in my heart. My hopes in participating in Yoga Reaches Out is to raise money for the hospital that saved me and helped me for so many years, so that it can continue to provide magical healing experiences and help children and families from around the world.
- give children battling the most complex diseases treatments they can't find anywhere else;
- help children in your town and those across the world get a second chance;
- fuel 3,000+ researchers working to find cures;
- help patient-families in crisis with urgent needs, including housing, food and clothing;
- bring crucial care to families through not 1, but 4 outpatient psychiatry clinics;
- provide reiki, yoga and a safe place to simply exhale for families facing the stress of caring for a critically-ill child;
- and so much more.
Thank you!
