Fundraise Your Way 2024-2025

Team HannieMae: Research for Short Gut

From 2021-2024, with your help, we have raised more than $100,000 in support of Dr. Mark Puder and his reserach. THANK YOU for helping us achieve this remarkable goal.

Hannah and Maisie are joining forces yet again this year for another big and new goal as these two best buds continue to thrive despite the odds.

For 7 years, these short gut friends have been thriving.

They have been making new friends and learning while we balance the reality of their medical needs. One of those realities is that they are living with central lines—a permanent IV that goes straight to their heart and delivers the intravenous nutrition their intestines are still too short to absorb. While we are so thankful for this lifesaving intervention, it comes with a lot of serious risks and downsides.

Over the past seven years we’ve been managing central lines, our families agree the #1 hardest part of this life is the mandatory hospital admission any time a child spikes a fever. Even if we know it’s a normal childhood virus, the presence of a central line and the risks that come with it means our kids have to spend at least 48 hours in the hospital to rule out the possibility of a more serious bloodstream infection. There’s no other way to say it—these admissions are awful for everyone.

Here’s where Dr. Mark Puder comes in! Many of you know we’ve raised money for him and his research in the past. Dr. Puder is currently running a research study to understand whether 24 hours would be enough time to rule out a serious bloodstream infection. If his study shows this would work, this would mean HALF as much time in the hospital for our kids. Half as much time away from school and friends, half as much time away from work, half as much time trapped in a hospital room when we could be home. To get answers, this study needs to enroll more kids and is working with hospitals across the eastern part of the country. We want to make sure this study has everything it needs to continue collecting data and improving short gut care.

We are sharing our BIG goal to jointly raise $XX in 2025-2026 to continue to support this life-changing research. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate our girls and give them the gift of less hospital time as they continue to live their best lives.

If you’re able to help us reach this big goal, all donations are tax deductible and will go directly to Dr. Puder’s research lab. Thank you for being part of this journey—we couldn’t do it alone!

Love,
