The Eversource Virtual Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital is the one time each year when our entire community — patients, families, friends, hospital employees, corporate partners—comes together for kids. That’s pretty special.

Registration

Is there a registration fee?

No! We hope you will make a self-gift at the time of registration to show your commitment to helping kids at Boston Children’s Hospital.

My whole family is walking. Does everyone have to register?

Yes! Every member of the family is an important part of the Walk community, so we require that all walkers register. Don’t forget everyone gets a t-shirt this year, so you want to make sure they are sporting their t-shirt on Walk day.

Can I invite people to join my team?

Yes! Ask your friends and family to join you virtually, and encourage them to share on social media why they are walking for Boston Children’s Hospital using #WalkforBCH.

Fundraising

Can I fundraise for the Walk?

Absolutely! Patients and families at Boston Children’s Hospital need your help now more than ever. You have full access to your Fundraising Center which has a bunch of tools to help make fundraising easy. We would love to hear about your successes and creative ideas!

Where does the money go?

Unless designating to one of the funds below, dollars raised through the Eversource Virtual Walk for Boston Children's Hospital will benefit kids through The Every Child Fund—helping find lifesaving answers for the sickest kids, many with nowhere else to turn. Every dollar goes directly to Boston Children’s to advance promising research and fund vital services not covered by insurance.

Can I designate my fundraising to a different area of the hospital?

Team captains have the choice to designate their team’s fundraising to one of the following areas:

  • Children’s Activities Fund
  • Every Child Fund
  • Pediatric Research
  • Urgent Needs

What is the suggested fundraising minimum?

The suggested fundraising minimum for all adults (13 and older) is $250. Adult walkers are asked to meet the minimum by July 1. We make it easy: Log in to your Fundraising Center to check out tips and tools to help you kick-start your fundraising!

What are Miracle Makers?

Miracle Makers are a special group of adults (13 and older) who raise $1,000 or more and kids (12 and under) who raise $500 or more! Along with many thanks from Boston Children's, those who achieve Miracle Maker status by May 13 will receive a virtual Miracle Maker star displayed on Walk day, a long-sleeve Miracle Maker shirt in place of the Walk t-shirt, and an invitation to the Miracle Maker Mixer.

How should I provide my donations to Boston Children's?

Please encourage supporters to donate online through your personal fundraising page. If your donor prefers to write a check, they can do so by mailing it along with this form to the following address:

*All checks should be payable to Boston Children’s Hospital. We cannot accept cash donations. Check donations take 5-7 business days to show up on your fundraising page after we receive them. If you have any questions please contact walk@chtrust.org or 617-398-4342

Do you send acknowledgement letters for contributions?

All donors who donate through your fundraising page will receive an email acknowledgement with a receipt from Boston Children's Hospital. Donors who give $250 or more will also receive an acknowledgement and receipt from Boston Children's Hospital by mail.

Can I create a Facebook Fundraiser for the Eversource Virtual Walk for Boston Children's Hospital?

Yes, we hope you will! You must create your Facebook Fundraiser through your Walk Fundraising Center for donations to be counted toward your fundraising total. Please do not create a fundraiser directly through Facebook.

Will gifts made through my Facebook Fundraiser appear on my fundraising page?

Yes, but only if you create your Facebook Fundraiser through your Walk Fundraising Center. Any donation you receive from Facebook in this way will be added to your fundraising total automatically.

I have a Walk Facebook Fundraiser, but see the option to create one again. Should I create a new one?

If you already have an active Facebook Fundraiser for your Walk fundraising efforts, please do not create a second one. Your active fundraiser should continue to accept donations, but if you need assistance or come across any issues, do not hesitate to reach out.

Teams

How do I form a team?

Team captains create a team during the registration process. Simply click register and select the “Start a Team” option.

How do others join my team?

All team members must register to walk. During registration, walkers can join your team by searching for and choosing the team's name. Or walkers can join your team directly from your team page. You can setup a custom URL to share, or use the provided email templates to send a personal invitation. Log in to your fundraising center to see more options to recruit teammates.

If I register before my team captain, can I still join our team?

Yes. Once your team captain has registered, go to your personal fundraising page and click the "Join a Team" button. You won't have the option to join the team until the team captain has registered.

Can I start a company team?

Email walk@chtrust.org to learn about the special benefits of creating a company team.

Will there be a Walk t-shirt and fundraising rewards?

Walkers will receive a Walk Kit that contains your household’s Walk t-shirts and other fun things to help make your walk day extra special. We will do our best to send kits to those who register between May 1-June 11, but cannot guarantee delivery before June 13. You can opt out of receiving the Walk Kit, and all incentives, during the registration process.

You must register by April 30 in order to receive a kit before June 13.

Virtual Walk details

How does the Eversource Virtual Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital work?

  • Fundraise. Fundraising for Boston Children’s is more important than ever. That’s why we’ve planned fun fundraising incentives and recognition nights leading up to Walk Day - when we can celebrate all things made possible because of your support. Be sure to register before April 30 to receive your Walk Kit. This kit will contain your household’s walk t-shirts and other fun things to help make your walk day extra special. We will do our best to send kits to those who register between May 1-June 11, but cannot guarantee delivery before June 13.
  • Celebrate. Kick off Walk weekend with a celebration in June. Stay tuned for more details!
  • Walk. Any time on Sunday, June 13 (or whenever works best for you!) do your walk and share photos and videos with us on Facebook and Instagram with #WalkforBCH @WalkforBostonChildrens. Your walk can be anything you want it to be—a family walk through your neighborhood or around your house, a backyard obstacle course, a dance party in your living room. Do whatever feels most comfortable to you and your family.

Will there be an in-person walk?

Honoring social distancing guidelines and for everyone’s safety, we will not hold a large gathering this year. We encourage you to still participate in our virtual event on June 13 with your family and your virtual team. Please share your videos and pictures on the Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital Facebook page or Instagram, and use the hashtag #WalkforBCH.

Where will my honor flag go?

Your honor flag will be shared virtually on June 13, inspiring all who see it.

Can I bring my dog?

Miles Challenge

What is the 100,000 Miles Challenge?

To honor the thousands of children we’re helping together, we’re doing something extra special as a Walk community. We have set a goal to walk 100,000 miles by Walk Day on June 13. Will you join us?

How do I join?

Use the Strava activity tracker to count your miles. Here’s how:

  • Log into your Fundraising Center and click the orange “connect with Strava” button where you can create or connect your Strava account to your fundraising page.
  • Once connected, download the Strava mobile app.
  • Walk, hike, or whatever you’d like—anytime, anywhere. Use the Strava app to track the miles you travel. Don’t want to use the app? You can manually enter your miles instead.
  • Strava will automatically add your miles to your fundraising page and toward our 100,000 Miles Challenge goal.
  • Our team will also share weekly miles challenges with fun facts, tips, and maybe a few surprises to help you reach your fundraising goal.

What is Strava?

Strava is a free social-fitness network that tracks athletic activities, allowing you to automatically upload your miles to your Fundraising Center.

Is Strava free to use?

There is no cost to use the basic activity tracking features in Strava. The app is free to download, and allows you to record and share activities right from your phone.

Do I have to use Strava to join the Miles Challenge?

No. We encourage using Strava to make tracking your activities easy. You can also add your miles manually by clicking on ‘Add miles’ in your Fundraising Center or by adding directly in the Strava app.

Can I sync with an existing device?

Yes! Strava syncs with the Apple Health App, Apple Watch, Samsung, Fitbit, Garmin and Peloton. Learn more here.

What is a Fundraising Center?

To help you fundraise, everyone who registers for the Walk will receive access to their own Fundraising Center—an all-in-one fundraising website. Here you will find all of the tools you need to meet (and exceed) your fundraising goal and track your fundraising progress! Fundraisers can customize a fundraising page, access helpful fundraising resources, send emails to donors, track fundraising progress and much more. Team Captains will have a special guide to help them lead their team.

How do I get a Fundraising Center?

Your Fundraising Center is automatically created when you register for the Walk. Keep your eyes peeled for an email with the link to access your Fundraising Center and your login credentials. You can always access the Fundraising Center by visiting the Walk website and clicking "Log in" in the header.

Can I personalize my page?

Yes, we hope you will! The more personal your page, the more funds you’re likely to raise. You can personalize it several ways:

  • Your fundraising page will contain a generic photograph. We urge you to upload your own photo or even create your own mini gallery!
  • Your fundraising page will also include a general message about why people participate in the Walk. We encourage you to replace this message with your own personal statement, tell your story, and explain why you walk for Boston Children’s Hospital.

How do people donate to my page?

Your personal fundraising page has a donate button that ensures all gifts are attributed to your personal fundraiser. There are many ways to share your personal fundraising page. We recommend posting a link to your page on Facebook, or sharing with friends and family via email.
