**Hanna is a super unique kiddo. Figuring out the reasons for her hypermobility, muscle weakness and extreme fatiguability has been a heavy long term weight for me as a mom. Thankfully, she's very smart and funny, and luckily very capable and adept when it comes to falling down.
This year our fundraiser success will be earmarked for pediatric research, since it's possible our quest will keep hitting dead ends without more research.. I wish every day that we could have definitive answers, and I know Boston Children's Hospital works hard at finding those answers for families like ours and for children in the future.**
The reason we fundraise for Boston Children's Hospital is HOPE. We have hope that someday we might find the reason for why Hanna struggles with her body more than some other kids, and we might know the best way to help her achieve all her dreams. We have hope that Boston Children's can save the lives of children who suffer from every sort of illness, improve quality of life for countless kids, and will search for and find answers for families like ours.
When we hit something of a dead end in Maine, we sought a second opinion at one of the best hospitals in the world, and we felt incredibly lucky to be able to drive there and back in one day, including a stop at Kowloon for fun Chinese food. We have enjoyed the special trips with just Mom and Dad and the middle kid. We have even spent a night in a hotel for an extra treat!
Our initial visit was intimidating, knowing that all the children were going through their own health issues and that their families were anxious or sad. It was a welcome surprise to find that the entire hospital is like a giant kid's museum, with fun interactive art and activities around every corner. We especially love the stairs that play different tones with every step.
Hanna is followed by Genetics, Neuromuscular, and Begg's Laboratory in the Congenital Myopathy research study. We not only have hope, but faith in Boston Children's Hospital, that they are working hard to provide superior care and compassion to every child and family who walks through the doors. Their commitment to engagement and community is what brings us all together to rally for this walk. This year we chose Pediatric Research for our beneficiary. My thinking behind this was not only Hanna, and the further research that likely needs to be done to pinpoint a diagnosis for, or the other kids who have been waiting for treatments and cures, but also the unknowns of Covid-19's effects on kids.
We have been blown away by the support we have received in our efforts, and we have real hope that Boston Children's will take care of Hanna. We look forward to the day when our visits can be in person again.
Thank you to all of the donors, keep your eye on Hanz, she is clearly a force to be reckoned with. <3
I'm fundraising on behalf of Boston Children's Hospital because:
I BELIEVE no parent should experience the loss of a child.
I BELIEVE no sibling should have to watch their brother or sister suffer.
I BELIEVE that by investing in the best doctors and scientists we can save lives - today!
I BELIEVE that donations received before today helped a child I love and
I BELIEVE that every dollar I raise for Boston Children's Hospital will have a ripple effect and could be THE dollar that changes everything for a future family in crisis.
Please consider a donation to support my fundraising efforts... because I KNOW that when we band together WE WILL help fund Boston Children's exceptional care and groundbreaking research that can help every child.
