We feel so fortunate to be able to participate in this walk again. As many of you know, our daughter Sloan was diagnosed with a life-threatening liver disease called biliary atresia when she was 3 months old. There is no known cause of this disease and no cure. The only treatments available are a Kasai procedure or a liver transplant. By the grace of God, her living donor, and her doctors at Boston Children's Hospital, Sloan received her transplant just 1 month after her diagnosis. After a tumultuous first year post-transplant, she has been doing phenomenally well and we are eternally grateful for such a world- class hospital right in our home state. Sloan continues to require daily medications from a compound pharmacy and at least every 3 month blood draws to ensure her new liver is doing well. Additionally she continues to go to BCH yearly for routine testing.
As we have done every year since she has been stable, we are participating in the Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital on June 9. Money not only goes toward the research and medical funding but also the child life services and special treatments for patients and caregivers that set BCH apart from other hospitals. Things like reiki and yoga, music therapy and just play spaces for siblings like Carter that made BCH a second home for him for so long.
Every dollar we raise will fund breakthrough research and vital care and support services for sick kids and their families. Your gift will:
- give children battling the most complex diseases treatments they can’t find anywhere else;
- help children in your town and across the world get a second chance;
- fuel 3,600+ researchers working to find cures;
- fund hospital activities like art and music programs to bring patients joy and hasten healing;
- help patient-families in crisis with urgent needs, including housing, food and clothing;
- bring crucial care to families through not one, but four, outpatient psychiatry clinics;
- and so much more.
Please consider supporting our fundraising to help children like Sloan and their families at Boston Children’s and beyond. We truly appreciate any amount!! It goes such a long way.
Thank you for reading and if possible supporting with any donation amount you are able.
All our Love, The St. James Family
