Hi! My name is Ellie. My favorite food is hot dogs. I really like Elmo and Abby. I build the tallest Lego towers. Every morning I ask mommy and daddy for a red bow to go in my hair. Right before they give me a bow, I have to take medicine for my heart.
When I was only 18 months old, my pediatrician heard an extra sound when she was listening to my heart. She told mommy and daddy to take me to a heart doctor. When I was at the heart doctor, they took a bunch of pictures of my heart. I don't really understand what was wrong, but I know its called a really fun word, ALCAPA. The heart doctor told mommy and daddy we needed to go right to Boston Children's Hospital. When we got to the hospital, they had a room full of toys. The next morning, they took a bunch more pictures, but I don't remember that because I was sleeping. After they took the pictures, a doctor came in to talk to mommy and daddy about how they were going to fix my heart. I was asleep the whole time, but when I woke up, I had a big scar. All the doctors and nurses were really nice to me, and gave me everything I needed to get better. I met some friends while we were in the hospital who needed to stay a lot longer than I did, and some of them are still there today. I would like to help them. There were kids from all around the world!
This is just the beginning of my heart journey, but I wanted to raise money to help other kids on their heart journeys. You see, there are kids who are not as fortunate as I was. Every kid should be able to get better, even if their families need some extra help.
I'm participating in the Eversource Walk for Boston Children’s Hospital on June 9.
Every dollar I raise funds breakthrough research and vital care and support services for sick kids and their families. Your gift will:
- give children battling the most complex diseases treatments they can’t find anywhere else;
- help children in your town and across the world get a second chance;
- fuel 3,600+ researchers working to find cures;
- fund hospital activities like art and music programs to bring patients joy and hasten healing;
- help patient-families in crisis with urgent needs, including housing, food and clothing;
- bring crucial care to families through not one, but four, outpatient psychiatry clinics;
- and so much more.
Please support my fundraising and help the children and families at Boston Children’s and beyond.
