I'm thrilled to say I've joined the Miles for Miracles team to help the brave kids at Boston Children's Hospital, specifically, my superhero nephew, Colin. You see, at infancy, Colin was diagnosed with Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome, a congenital growth disorder that can cause tumors on the liver and kidney. Colin began quarterly scans and bloodwork as a baby to detect these tumors, and at age 2, one was found. He just completed several months of chemotherapy. Terrifyingly, his story is not over. Wilms tumors can grow at any time up until puberty, so he likely will be in and out of treatment for the next several years.
As his uncle, I don't want to worry about whether his body is going to go through something horrible again and again. Instead, I want to buy him his first pair of hockey skates and put him on the ice with my daughters. I want to watch his face light up as I pull him around on the pads and teach him how to stick handle. I want to hear him call me "Unca Ty" and ask to sit on my lap to show me his beloved cars. I want to sneak him endless fruit snacks and treats anytime he asks, because he knows I will. And, most importantly, I want my sister and brother-in-law to have a healthy child, who never has to worry about tumors again.
So, please support my fundraising and help the incredible kids and families at Boston Children's Hospital.
