Betty and Brian's Arts and Crafts Program

This fund was set up to honor the memory of Betty Tang, who passed away on September 10, 2014 after three years of courageous battle against cancer. Your generous gifts will be used specifically to support the arts and crafts program initiated by Betty and her 10-year old son, Brian Lin, for patients and families staying in the Yawkey Family Inn at Boston Children’s Hospital.
Betty received her MD from the prestigious Peking University and was trained as a pediatrician in China. After she came to the US in 1989, she worked many years as a researcher at the University of Miami, University of Pennsylvania and Harvard School of Public Health and then as a senior scientist in pharmaceutical companies like AstraZenaca, Novartis and Pfizer. Diagnosed with ovarian cancer in early 2011, Betty’s journey over the past three years had not been easy - she endured multiple surgeries and rounds of chemotherapy, and also suffered from serious infections, kidney failure and unbearable pain. Despite these circumstances, she chose to help many other patients and families in their own battle against cancer and other diseases.
The weekly art and craft program created by Betty and Brian brought happiness to the sick children and their family during a difficult time. Moreover, Betty helped to lift their spirits and sense of hope with her own story of survival and fighting against life-threatening diseases.
With your support, Brian and Kayla Hoffstein, a volunteer and a junior at Emmanuel College, will carry on Betty’s legacy and continue to run the art and craft program every Wednesday at 4 pm in the Yawkey Family Inn at Boston Children’s Hospital.
