In Memory of Dr. Paul J. Schliesman

Please help us reach our goal of $10,000 for the Schliesman Fund by June 2, 2017.

Dr. Paul J. Schliesman, a beloved Harvard Medical School student and Children’s Hospital house officer, died while a senior resident at Boston Children’s Hospital in 1986.  Dr. Schliesman is best remembered for his quiet humor and consistent concern for the welfare of others, particularly those less fortunate than himself.  After completing his residency in pediatrics, he had planned to work in a primary care setting in an underdeveloped country.  A Memorial Fund was established within the Department of Medicine to provide a member of the house-staff the same opportunity to serve a needy community.

The Paul J. Schliesman Award is awarded annually to a member(s) of the house staff who wishes to travel to a third-world country to work in primary care.  Recipients are chosen by the current chief residents, program directors and faculty members who were members of Paul’s residency class.

Over the last 31 years, this fund has benefitted many residents who wanted to gain international experience in primary care. As of 2017, the fund is almost out of money. Please help of reach our goal of at least $10,000 by June 2, 2017 so we can continue this valuable program.
