This year I'm participating in Yoga Reaches Out in honor of my daughter Katie and the care she and my family received at Boston Children’s Hospital just this past February. In the 3 days between arriving by MedFlight and Katie passing away, we benefitted first hand from the amazing services that were available to us which included: the hotel adjacent the hospital, food, comfort gifts, zen garden, meditation room, specialized social workers for children and adults, designated family gathering space, and memory box capturing of handprints, hair and heartbeats. The care teams at Boston Children's Hospital are nothing short of angels. Over the years of being called to fundraise along with Team North Shore Yogis I never imagined it would be me or my little yogini Katie who would be on the receiving end of what we had been working to put in place and sustain. On April 28, I’ll join a community of more than 1,000 at the WIN Waste Field House for an inspirational day of yoga, music, and fundraising—to give back and bring lifesaving answers and hope to the sickest children from around the world.
- give children battling the most complex diseases treatments they can’t find anywhere else;
- help children in your town and those across the world get a second chance;
- fuel 3,600+ researchers working to find cures at the world’s leading pediatric research hospital;
- help patient-families (many of whom travel from far away to find answers) with urgent needs, including housing, food and clothing;
- bring crucial care to families through not one, but four outpatient psychiatry clinics;
- provide wellness services like Reiki, yoga and a safe place to simply exhale for families facing the stress of caring for a critically ill child;
- and so much more.
