Hi All:
I am writing again after a two year hiatus to ask you to consider donating to Boston Children's Hospital. On April 28th I will be participating in the Yoga Reaches Out event. In the Gillette Stadium field house 1500 yogis will vinyasa our way to providing funds for the life saving-life giving research and support the hospital provides to so many patients like Julia and families like ours.
My daughterJulia was born with Truncas Arteriosis-- a 1:40,000 congenital heart defect. She was born without a pulmonary artery. Her team of doctors and surgeons built her one. Today she is 30 working in marketing, doing cardio on her Peleton like anyone her age. She lives with her terrific boy friend Scott and their equally terrific Boxer, Gus.
This year I am thinking of transitions. Her cardiologist will retire this year. He met her at 12 hours of age. He is the one who told us there was hope and good treatment. His calm, care and constancy throughout her life has made treatment possible and the fear bearable.
The hospital has established a special department for adults the Department of Adult Cardiology for patients like Julia. Cardiologists who treat adults are not trained to treat these heart problems because patients didn't used to get to adulthood. We know that there is another competent doctor waiting in the wings. This the strength of Boston Children's hospital.
In a world where health care is falling apart where it is disorganized and unresponsive Boston Children's Hospital provides coordinated care--truly coordinated care.
Please support my fundraising for this special institution that has given so much to us and families like us.
With grace,
Ellen
